SCHENECTADY - Congregation Gates of Heaven is joining the Union for Reform Judaism's nationwide drive to help victims of Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi.
The congregation at 852 Ashmore Ave. will be collecting items this morning and Sunday until noon. On Sunday afternoon, temple volunteers will pack boxes to be trucked on Monday to Mississippi.
The Jacobs Ladder Project is collecting donations and shipping them to Utica, Miss. There, the supplies will be distributed through local and regional ministries and relief centers that serve the greater Jackson, Miss., community, whose population has doubled with displaced families.
