EDITORS PUT VERDICT FIRST, CLINTON SECOND.(MAIN)

NEW YORK -- Newspaper editors across the country gave O.J. Simpson better front-page play than they did President Clinton's State of the Union address.

The late editions of The Washington Post carried the banner headline: ``Jury Holds Simpson Responsible For Slayings.'' Earlier editions had led with highlights of Clinton's speech.

``O.J. NAILED'' howled the New York Post, which, like other tabloids, didn't even mention Clinton on the front page.

The President was winding up his hourlong address when the Simpson jury announced it had found Simpson liable for the deaths of his ex-wife and Ron Goldman and ordered …
